UK’s premier specialists in the provision of PAT Testing

SCL Managed Services are one of the UK’s premier specialists in the provision of PAT Testing or Portable Appliance Testing, and electrical testing services enabling  customers to demonstrate a duty of care towards its employees thus complying with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Provision and Use of Work Equipment regulations 1998, Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and Electricity at Work Act 1989 through the provision of evidence based maintenance in the form of comprehensive PAT Testing and certification or simple pass/fail PAT Testing and labelling dependant on the customer requirement and budget.

Key Facts As Told by the Health & Safety Executive:

  1. What does the law say? The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require that any electrical equipment that has the potential to cause injury is maintained in a safe condition. However, the Regulations do not specify what needs to be done, by whom or how frequently (ie they don’t make inspection or testing of electrical appliances a legal requirement, nor do they make it a legal requirement to undertake this annually).
  2. How often should I test electrical appliances? The frequency of inspection and testing depends upon the type of equipment and the environment it is used in. For example, a power tool used on a construction site should be examined more frequently than a lamp in a hotel bedroom.
  3. What about new equipment? New equipment should be supplied in a safe condition and not require a formal portable appliance inspection or test. However, a simple visual check is recommended to verify the item is not damaged.
  4. Portable Appliance Testing should be undertaken:
Where appliances are used by employees in establishments such as offices and work environments
Where the public may use appliances in establishments such as hospitals, schools, hotels, shops etc.
Where appliances are supplied or hired
Where appliances are repaired or serviced

PAT Testing, or Portable Appliance Testing, is an important part of any health & safety policy and it’s the easy, cost effective solution for the maintenance of portable appliances. It is however important to choose a competent supplier who are accredited, not just to undertake the testing, but to provide excellent customer service at all times. Don’t forget that your supplier must have Professional Indemnity Insurance as well as Public and Employee liability insurance and their staff specifically trained to undertake Portable Appliance Testing. It is vital they are trustworthy, competent, and efficient whilst having a working knowledge of the many types of environment in which portable appliances are tested.

This is why SCL Managed Services have launched the “Don’t Pull The Plug” Campaign. By choosing SCL Managed Services you receive truly competitive rates as well as the piece of mind that you have the support or a trustworthy and competent supplier.
